Living to Love…

Posted on

It’s been so long….and so much has changed….

But in the end…..so much is the same….

July 23, 2014: completely surprised by the news that the swelling in Audrianna’s airway has decreased enough to proceed with the planned double stage Laryngotracheal Reconstruction (LTR), the first step toward decannulation (taking her trach out…)

August 1, 2014: more big news….

November 12, 2014: surgery day….the first stage of the planned double stage Laryngotracheal Reconstruction (LTR)…..5 hours later…..her airway is reconstructed and a plastic stent is placed inside of her airway to keep everything stabilized

December 12, 2014: another surgery…..the stent is removed…..Audrianna’s airway looks open….for the first time ever…..and so…..she tries the Passy-Muir valve, to help her to speak…..

A few days later…..we finally hear her voice…..for the very first time!

January 29, 2015: another airway follow up…..and things continue to look open and stable……”capping trial” begins (a “cap” is placed over the trach tube opening to close off airflow via the tube. In doing so, the tube no longer acts as a means of airflow, allowing respiration entirely through the nose and mouth)

March 16, 2015: and baby makes five….Happy Birthday Cullen….

May 6, 2015: decannulation….she did it…..she’s breathing…..

August 29, 2015: her stoma is surgically closed…..

December 16, 2015: a final look at her airway……and just like that…..the journey is over….her airway is stable…..and strong…..

And this journey has helped us to see that even though so much has changed……she is exactly the same……

With or without a trach….We love her fiercely…

With or without her trach….She is happy, healthy, sassy, and strong….

Because…..in the end…..life isn’t about waiting……it’s about living…..today….and loving….unconditionally….
